Advent Reading Week 3 Part 2

John 1:14 “And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

This verse, along with the genealogy provided in the first 17 verses of Matthew are very crucial, I think. The previous devotion we went through Romans 8:18, and suffering, and how that is building toward something. These two passages provide some insight into that, by reminding us that Jesus wasn’t just God, He was also man. He was flesh and blood like us.

According to Romans 8, our suffering isn’t worth comparing to the glory that is coming. John tells us that to see the Son is to see that glory. We suffer in eager expectation of the day that we may finally see Christ, face to face, finally, fully satisfied, restored, and happy. I enjoy this passage because so often, I think, we forget that Jesus was human. He is God, but He is man as well. He understands us, the suffering, the pain. The suffering in expectation of something. It reminds me that we don’t have a savior who doesn’t understand us. He knows us. He understands us and all the things that make us up, and He is just as eager to see us, as we are Him
